Allergy Treatment

There are a number of Allergy Treatment methods available which can assist in treating a response to an allergy. The type of medication will depend on the symptoms, and the severity of the reaction. It is important to note that although an Allergy Treatment can provide effective allergy relief, it are not a cure.  Therefore it is always important to obtain the advice of a professional healthcare practitioner, who may also suggest tests to determine the cause of the allergy.

Nasal Decongestants – these work to constrict the blood flow of effected areas.  This helps to decrease inflammation and swelling, making it easier for the individual to breath.  These are not recommended for long term use, but are beneficial in acute situations.

Antihistamines – when an individual has an allergic reaction to a substance it deems harmful, the body produces histamines, to fight the invaders.  The release of histamines produces allergy symptoms.  Antihistamines work to inhibit the effects of histamines on the individual.

Bronchodilators – these provide rapid allergy relief for those suffering from asthma, by opening up the airways, allowing air to pass to the lungs, enabling the individual to breathe normally.  They are usually prescribed as inhalers, and can certainly be a lifesaving form of medication for an individual having a severe asthma attack.

Corticosteroids – these provide relief from inflammation, such as in the case of eczema, allergic rhinitis, and asthma.  They come in a number of different applications, ie. creams for skin, inhalants for asthma, eye drops, nasal sprays, etc.

Adrenaline – this is a life saving treatment for those who suffer from anaphylaxis, which is the most severe and acute allergic reaction that an individual can have.
